For three days- October 15-17, 2010 - grassroots activists & Indigenous representatives from a range of organisations, communities and movements will share ideas, experiences and stories of struggle inside their own countries against global capitalism.

This Gathering will take place on Wurundjeri land. We give our respects to the Wurundjeri elders past and present.

The abhorrent business practices of Multinational Corporations, and the struggles against them, will be the central focus of this gathering. It follows that space will be created for discussions on the implications of Free Trade agreements (Australia-Colombia and others), the imposition of the Initiative for the Integration of Regional Infrastructure in South America (IIRSA), the implementation of US plans for Central and North America, and more broadly, capitalist globalisation.

For two weeks in July, a Solidarity Delegation representing the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU), the Electrical Trades Union (ETU), the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA), and the Latin American Solidarity Network (LASNET) visited Colombia, hosted by SINALTRAINAL, a union organising the food services sector, including workers for Kraft, Nestle, Coca-Cola and agro-industry products.

The following are the declarations of the delegation of Australian trade unionists, Latin American Solidarity Network (LASNET) and social activists, who, hosted by SINALTRAINAL, travelled within Colombia between the 12 and the 28 of July, 2010.

The Latin American Solidarity Network (LASNET) is an independent and inclusive group of people working in solidarity with Latin American grassroots movements and its struggles.

Our main goals are Building Bridges of struggles and resistances between Latin America, Australia and the whole Asia Pacific Region and linking our struggles against Neo-liberalism around the world, a big challenge but we think is possible Organising Globally.

Since 1994, Teatro Pasmi has worked in Santiago with diverse communities, those which are marginalised and excluded from the “success-oriented” and individualistic mainstream.

“The recent elections (January 17, 2010) proved the failure of the Concertación coalition (Social-democrat Coalition in government since 1990 after Pinochet Dictatorship) to make profound reforms in Chilean society and, with the Piñera government (Pro-Pinochet sectors which will take office next March 11), we can only expect a direct attack on community activism, social programs and workers’ rights.”
