Indigenous Hondurans: “The U.S. government, by recognizing the electoral farce, demonstrates once again their participation in the coup d’etat”

The Civil Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras in response to the latest events characterized by the electoral farce set up by the de facto regime, makes known the following:

1. We once again denounce that the de facto regime has deepened the repression against the Honduran people in order to guarantee a spurious electoral process that isn’t recognized by most of the national and international community.

2.- We demand the immediate freedom of the sisters and brothers who have been captured by the coup regime.

3.- We demand an immediate halting of the crimes against Hondurans for struggling for the restitution of the constitutional order and of the constitutional president of the republic Manuel Zelaya Rosales.

4.- We announce the great defeat of the electoral farce with the rejection of the population that has decided to abstain from voting, which will demonstrate once again the capacity and strength of the resistance against the coup d’etat. The results will be that the great majority will abstain from the electoral fraud.

5. We warn that from this farce will emerge a regime to administrate a political, economic and social crisis that will be unable to sustain itself in the face of the just demands of the people organized in the National Front of Popular Resistance. This regime will be isolated internationally from the democratic countries and peoples of the world.

6.- We condemn the government of the United States and its puppets who, by recognizing the electoral farce, demonstrate once again their participation in the planning, financing and execution of the coup d’etat, threatening to extend it to the rest of the peoples of the world.

7.- We salute the brave and honorable attitude of the people who have withdrawn their participation from this electoral farce.

8.- We call to the peoples of the world to deepen the solidarity with the Honduran people, and to be alert to what happens given the repressive attitude of the military dictatorship.

The emancipation of our people will not be detained. Nobody is giving up here.

With the ancestral force of Lempira, Mota, Iselaca and Etempica we raise our voices full of justice, dignity, freedom and peace.

Honduran President Manuel Zelaya Requests International Tribunal

Tegucigalpa, November 28 (RHC)– Honduran President Manuel Zelaya has called for an international tribunal to investigate charges of political persecution. In a letter sent to the United Nations and the Organization of American States, the Honduran leader said that he and his cabinet would be the first to submit themselves to be judged for alleged crimes, emphasizing that the fascist regime of Roberto Micheletti is inventing nonexistent charges against him and his cabinet.

Manuel Zelaya, who is holed up at the Brazilian Embassy in Tegucigalpa, said that an international court should judge the real perpetrators of violations of international law: the illegal regime of Roberto Micheletti.

The Honduran president said that such an ad hoc international tribunal would hear from the social movements and popular resistance to the fascist coup — groups that have demanded the restitution of Zelaya as president of the Central American country and called for the return to constitutional rule.

DON'T RECOGNIZE THE NOV. 29TH ELECTIONS

IFCO / Pastors for Peace Action Alert on Honduras:

TELL PRESIDENT OBAMA:
DON’T SUPPORT THE ILLEGAL COUP REGIME IN HONDURAS
DON’T RECOGNIZE THE NOV. 29TH ELECTIONS

On October 28 the State Department sent its Asst. Secretary for the Western Hemisphere, Tom Shannon to Honduras with the purpose of “urging opposing political sides in Honduras to be more flexible.” As result of this pressure by our government, a questionable accord was agreed to between the Coup forces and President Zelaya. Both President Zelaya and the people of Honduras had hoped that this agreement would result in his reinstatement within a short period of time. Yet this agreement was pending on a vote of approval by the Honduran Congress and on a judicial ruling by the Supreme Court. Neither nor Congress or Supreme Court acted and while President Zelaya waited Michelleti was already calling for a new government of so called “Unity and Reconciliation.” This new government without the inclusion of President Zelaya would only serve to legitimize the coup. The National Resistance Front and President Zelaya have therefore called this sham of an agreement “dead.” President Zelaya said, “There is no point in deceiving Hondurans.”

The illegitimate coup government led by Michelleti still plans to go ahead with the November 29th elections. But the Honduran people who have been in resistance for 135 days are very clear that elections under the coup and without Zelaya’s reinstament would be an act of fraud against the people of Honduras.

According to a 10/24/09 human rights report from COFADEH (Honduran Committee of the Families of the Disappeared) the illegal coup regime has committed more than 4,000 human rights violations including illegal detentions and political murders. In this climate of aggressive repression in which the military continue to attack nonviolent protesters and close down independent media, how can there be free and fair elections?

In another blow to democracy in Honduras, the US State Department says that it will recognize these elections whether President Zelaya is reinstated or not. To do so would only continue to legitimize the illegal coup government and all of its egregious actions.
At this critical point in the struggle of the people of Honduras, the National Resistance Front points out that it is more important than ever to keep the pressure on our government to not recognize the illegitimate elections planned for November 29th. The people’s demands for a constitutional assembly and the return of constitutionally elected President Zelaya are yet to be met.

We must keep the pressure on in order to guarantee that the people of Honduras are free to forge their own future in a democratic and inclusive society.

KEEP THE PRESSURE ON!! THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES!!
CALL CONGRESS! CALL THE WHITE HOUSE! CALL THE STATE DEPARTMENT!

Demand that the November 29th elections are not recognized
and bring about an end to the coup!
